Incoming Text messages : How tmobile can screw you !
Did you know you can send an email to anyone who has a tmobile cell phone service ? Its simple .. just mail <10-digit-number>@tmomail.net and your email will be delivered to the cell phone via an SMS message (a text message). The same was applicable for AT&T ( <10-digit-number>@mobile.att.net ) previously but I am not sure if that works now. Its a great feature where you can mail your cell phone or someone can simply send you a short email using any email service.
But wait till you listen to what can happen. Check with your mobile provider, if incoming text messages are free !! This month I saw an extra amount on my cell phone bill.. 100+ incoming messages billed at 10 cents each. I called to find out why I am being billed. Found out this after a 30 minute customer support call.
1) Incoming text messages will cost me and are not free. (Check your provider).
2) Anyone can email
3) There is no way that tmobile can block this feature.
So based on these 3 points .. well anyone who knows your phone number can write a script and send you thousands of emails to your cellphone. And even at 10 cents per incoming message, you have to pay atleast $100 !! And there is no way you can stop them. And tmobile cannot help you and cannot turn off this feature.
So looks like anyone who knows your cellphone number and your provider can firstly flood your incoming folder and in cases like mine .. force you to pay hundreds of dollars and you have no choice but to pay !!
Why not get out of the plan ? Well how many of us are not in a contract !!! Never realised such a big loophole can be present and the provider cannot do anything about it !!! STUPID !!
Please DIGG it if you find it useful.
